AFI FEST: The Premiere of "Nobody Knows about the Persian Cats" - Hollywood (November 2, 2009)

It's Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll!
This is an amazing, revealing and insightful film. But Ghobadi gives only a partial picture of the underground music scene in Tehran. One doesn't see the sex and drugs which are of paramount importance. There are also various other negative connotations like alcohol abuse and violence associated with this type of music.
Hence, this movie cheats for political reasons. One can see the strong influence of Iranian-American Roxana Saberi. Consequently, the movie has a hybrid style. Ghobadi's Half Moon "Niwemang" which also focused on restrictions on music in Iran is closer to reality to his most recent work.
