Professor Hafezian is assistant editor of the English-language journal Discourse: An Iranian Quarterly and a member of the editor board of the Persian-language journal Middle East Studies Quarterly, both published in Iran. He has written extensively on political elites and political development in the Middle East, comparing Iran, Turkey, and Egypt and also on women and development issues in Iran.

He is currently teaching at the Islamic Azad University in Tehran.
