Admiral Ahmad Madani 1929-2006
Admiral Ahmad Madani Born in Kerman, he earned a PhD in law and taught at Qazvin and Kerman universities during the Pahlavi Era. He became the commander of the navy in Hormuzgan (Bandar Abbas) but was fired by the Shah for his political views. He was a personal friend and ally of Prime Minister Mehdi Bazargan and became the first defence minister of the Islamic Republic. He was also the Governor of Khuzistan after the revolution and successfully crushed separatist plots. He ran for President in the first elections held after the revolution. Madani departed Iran in 1980 and became the leader of the National Front abroad.
