New oil, gas fields discovered in southern Iran


Tehran, March 8, IRNA -- New oil and gas fields have been discovered in the southern province of Khuzestan and south of the South Pars gas field in Bushehr province respectively, said Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh here on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said that the new oil field was located 40 km northeast of the provincial capital of Ahvaz in Khuzestan province with an estimated capacity of 5,700 million barrels of oil.

He noted that the field belongs solely to Iran.

As for the newly discovered gas field, the minister said that it is situated east of the South Pars gas field near the Belal oil field in the southern Bushehr province.

Zanganeh added that the field, which is to be shared with another country, was discovered during the drilling operation of a 3,430-meter well in Bushehr.

The field`s capacity was estimated at 168 billion cubic meters of gas and 183 million barrels of gas condensate, said the minister.
